4 Reasons Why We Choose Nature's Sunshine as our HERBAL Company

Our resident naturopath is an herbalist at her core when working towards healing the body at the source.  Her favorite herbal manufacturer is Nature's Sunshine even though they are a multi-level.  We have always sold NSP at member's prices without having our customers become members.  This means less hassle and better shipping for you!

NSP recently posted a blog on the 4 top reasons to buy their herbal products along with good video.  Here's a list of their reasons along with a link to take you directly to their article.

1. Raw Material Sourcing.  Inspection and testing to ensure that each product contains the key essential ingredients.

2. Formulate for Efficacy.  Staff scientists work relentlessly to ensure the highest purity and potency of ingredients.  Some of the leading natural health practitioners have helped developed their formulas that have been around for decades.

3. In-house Manufacturing.  The only way to ensure quality and testing.

4.Testing from Start to Finish.  Over 600 tests in their state-of-the-art testing and manufacturing facilities.

Two Cardiologists Debate the Benefits (If Any) of Statins

Dr. Brownstein MD is a cardiologist who understands how to use food before prescription drugs to restore and maintain long-term health...and has the scientific background to support his beliefs.  In his recent blog, he recollects an email debate he recently had with another cardiologist regarding actual benefits that statin drugs provide using the current scientific evidence.  It's a great read...(click here).

Food as Medicine - Diet Before Prescription Drugs

Health Freedom Alliance recently posted an article asking this question:  Food vs. Medicine:  Should Diet Changes Come Before Prescription Drugs?  It was a short article but it summarized how current American lifestyle choices are creating a sick population and the expense that this inflicts on all of us.  Here's some quick facts:

  • 70% of Americans are on prescription drugs
  • 69% Percent of adults are overweight or obese
  • 31% of adults have high blood pressure
  • 33.5% of adults have high LDL or “bad” cholesterol

Here's a link to the article.

While I don't have all the answers, my personal experience reflects my belief that correcting nutrition and exercise habits can bring these numbers into healthy ranges.  At the end of last year, I was obese, had blood pressure in the pre-hypertensive levels, and high blood well as low energy, vision problems, and other "old age" problems.  I took the bad news to heart and change to a strict Paleo diet, started exercising more, and taking a supplement regime recommended by Margaret.  In 3 months, I had lost 25 pounds (back to my high school weight!), brought my resting blood sugar consistently into the 90s, and my blood pressure well into the normal range.  Pretty good for a 54 year old "old guy" without the use of drugs!

The key to my success was diet.  A form of Paleo worked best for me.  Transitioning my body from carb satiation to fat satiation, getting a majority of my calories from fats), was key.  I have worked hard at eating smaller portions and choosing healthy proteins and more veggies.  And I'm not hungry!

I'm not advocating to refuse all drugs but rather I'm suggesting that we look at the personal habits we each have and make corrections there first.  Maybe a better title for my post is Food Before Prescription Drugs.  Of course, the big questions is why don't our doctors steer us in this direction...

(Good) Multivitamins Linked to Younger Biological Age

Recent research positively links multivitamin intake with a younger biological age.  Here's a brief excerpt from the article and link to the full article.  As you may have noticed, I added (Good) in front meaning a multi of good quality from a reputable manufacturer who test their raw ingredients and products (which precludes any products from the major box stores).

"New research shows the cells of multivitamin users may have a younger biological age than cells from non-users.
Researchers led by Honglei Chen, M.D., Ph.D. from the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, a division of the National Institutes of Health, looked at the length of telomeres, DNA sequences at the end of chromosomes that shorten as cells replicate and age.

The ageing and lifespan of normal, healthy cells are linked to the so-called telomerase shortening mechanism, which limits cells to a fixed number of divisions."

Government Now Says Dietary Cholesterol OK

I just read several articles that report that dietary cholesterol is no longer a "dangerous food"!  For the past 50 years, cholesterol has been touted as a "grave health hazard".  However, the 2015 Dietary Guidelines for America has removed cholesterol as a food to avoid.  In fact, research has not found a correlation between high dietary cholesterol and heart disease.

Other research has shown that not only is dietary cholesterol not a cause of heart disease but essential to good health including it's role in vitamin D production.

It may turn out that the original guidelines on low (good) fat and low cholesterol intake may have been the biggest contribution our current obesity epidemic.  As it turns out, trans fat and fructose (including HFCS) are the most dangerous food to a health body!

Bacon, eggs, and butter are the new health food!

pH Balancing for Better Health

"The body produces fat to protect its organs from the damaging effects of acids. A balanced pH, combined with a high-alkaline, low-carbohydrate diet and exercise may help you lose weight where other programs have failed."

This is a quote from an excellent article on the benefits of maintaining an alkaline body from our favorite herbal company, Nature's Sunshine.  Click here to read more.

Do You Need a Detox?

We highly recommend some sort of cleansing on a periodic basis.  Many people choose to take the CleanseSmart Whole Body Cleanse on an annual basis and report tangible, positive results.  I just read a good article on detoxifying which include an checklist on evaluating whether you would benefit from a cleanse.  Check it out!  (click here)
